Most of ValueFax's Configuration options and settings are saved as text files in the ValueFax Fax Folder. For experienced users, these files provide a quick way to change ValueFax's Configuration options without going through the ValueFax Manager. For example, from the Setup file you can change your dialing prefixes, the font of your cover page, and more. Also you might find it useful to review or print a copy of these files, such as your Sent Faxes log or your Phone Book.
Described below, are ValueFax's configuration files. Novice users should not modify these files, but instead use the ValueFax Manager.
The Setup File
This file contains the options you choose in the following Setup windows:

To modify the Setup file:
1. Open your System Folder.
2. Open the ValueFax Fax Folder.
3. Double-click the Setup file. The Setup file appears.
4. Modify or review the file as you like.
Important: Options on the Same Line are separated with a Tab.
5. Choose Save from the File menu and close the file. If you used a word processor, save the file as text-only.
Waiting Faxes File
The Waiting Faxes file contains the information in the Waiting Faxes log. You can both review and modify this file.
To open the Waiting Faxes file:
1. Open your System Folder.
2. Open the ValueFax Fax Folder.
3. Double-click the Waiting Faxes file. The Waiting Faxes file appears.
Important: Options are separated with a Tab.
4. Modify or review the file as you like.
5. Choose Save from the File menu and close the file. If you used a word processor, save the file as text-only.
Sent Faxes File
The Sent Faxes file stores information that appears in the Sent Faxes log. You might find it useful to print this file for your records.
To open the Sent Faxes file:
1. Open your System Folder.
2. Open the ValueFax Fax Folder.
3. Double-click the Sent Faxes file. The Sent Faxes file appears.
To print the Sent Faxes file, select your local printer from the Chooser window and choose Print from the File menu.
To close the Sent Faxes file, select Close or Exit from the File menu. If you modified the file, be sure to save it as text-only.
Received Faxes File
The Received Faxes file stores information that appears in the Received Faxes log. You might find it useful to print this file for your records.
To open the Received Faxes file:
1. Open your System Folder.
2. Open the ValueFax Fax Folder.
3. Double-click the Received Faxes file. The Received Faxes file appears.
To print the Received Faxes file, select your local printer from the Chooser window and choose Print from the File menu.
4. To close the Received Faxes file, choose Close or Exit from the File menu.
Received Faxes Folder
The Received Faxes folder contains a folder for each fax you receive. ValueFax names each folder according to the time it received the fax. Inside each folder is a Control Info file and a graphic file for each page of the fax you received.
To open the Received Faxes folder:
1. Open your System Folder.
2. Open the ValueFax Fax Folder.
3. Double-click the Received Faxes folder. The Received Faxes folder opens.
Each fax you received is in its own folder. ValueFax names each folder according to the date and time it received the fax.
4. Double-click the folder of the fax you want to view. Inside each folder is a Control Info file and a graphic for each page of the fax you received. The Control Info file records the following information:

窶「 The number of pages in the fax
窶「 The ID of the remote fax machine
窶「 The resolution and whether the fax has been viewed
5. To view the control file, double-click the Control Info file. The Control Info file appears.
6. To view a fax page, double-click the page you want to view.
The currently installed graphics program (for example: MacDraw邃「) will open the file. If you do not have a graphics program, you must use the View command from the Received Faxes log. If you are using System 7.x, the page can also be viewed using the TeachText program.
Distribution Lists
ValueFax stores your distribution list information in the Distribution List folder and the DistList file. The Distribution List folder contains the parameters of each phone record in your distribution list. The DistList file lists all the currently defined distribution lists.
Distribution List File
The DistList file lists your distribution list files.
To open the Distribution List file:
1. Open your System Folder.
2. Open the ValueFax Fax Folder.
3. Double-click the DistList file. The DistList file opens.
The most recently added list appears at the bottom. You can change the name of a distribution list by clicking on the name, dragging the cursor accross it, and then typing a new name. If you rename a distribution list, you must also change the corresponding name in the DistList folder, also located in the ValueFax Fax Folder.
DistList Folder
The DistList folder contains your distribution list files.
To open the DistList folder:
1. Open your System Folder.
2. Open the ValueFax Fax Folder.
3. Double-click the DistList folder. The DistList folder opens.
Important: If you rename a distribution list in the DistList folder, you must also change the corresponding file name in the DistList file.
4. To view or modify a distribution list, double-click on a ditribution list file. The distribution file opens.
From here, you can change the name and company name of the recipients, change the baud rates, and more. Each option is separated with a Tab.
